APPLIANCE REPAIR QUOTE CALCULATOR
A technician on a driveway already has the quote. The harder question is whether to send it. A $635 dryer repair on a twelve-year-old machine can still be the honest number for this visit and the wrong number for the next three years.
This page does not appraise remaining life. It divides the quote you already built by the years you expect that repair to buy, then divides a replacement price by the years you expect the new machine to last. Side by side it also shows what you keep if they take the repair versus what you keep if they pay the diagnostic and walk.
On the calculator defaults — half an hour of diagnosis, 1.5 hours of repair, half an hour of travel, $80 loaded labor, a $35 trip, $120 of parts at 25% markup, a 5% callback reserve, 10% overhead, and a 30% target — the quote is $635.25. Three remaining years on that machine is $211.75 per year. A $799 replacement that lasts ten years is $79.90 per year. Replace is $131.85 a year cheaper for the customer.
You still keep $190.57 if they take the repair, and $75 if they pay the diagnostic and leave. The honest tension is the point: the repair still pays you more, and it still costs the customer more per remaining year.
Give the repaired unit eight years instead of three. The same $635.25 falls to $79.41 a year and undercuts the $79.90 replacement. Both books then point at finishing the repair. Sell or install the replacement for $150 and the default three-year driveway flips the other way: you keep $225 walking, and replace wins for both of you.
Open the quote calculator and change the years. The table updates from the same numbers you already typed.
On the calculator defaults a $635.25 repair target on a machine expected to last three more years costs $211.75 per remaining year. A $799 replacement expected to last ten years costs $79.90 per year. Replace is $131.85 a year cheaper for the customer. Finishing the repair still leaves the technician $115.57 more than walking with a $75 diagnostic. Those are planning figures from the rates you type, not a recommendation.
If the repaired unit is expected to last eight years, the same $635.25 quote falls to $79.41 per year and undercuts the $79.90 replacement. The repair then beats replace for both the customer and the technician's book.
Add what you keep on that replacement. At $150, walking with the $75 diagnostic plus the replacement leaves $225, which beats the $190.57 repair profit. Recommend replace on those numbers.
No. A boiler bid prices winters of patch calls against replacing the plant. This page prices one appliance service-call quote against remaining years on that machine.
