← Cabinet refinishing bid calculator
The number a homeowner wants is a price per door. That number is not a takeoff. A 10-door galley with eight drawer fronts, a greasy range wall, and a dark-to-light extra coat is not the same job as ten shop-sprayed doors with the existing pulls left on. The door count is identical. The hours are not.
Open the free bid calculatorA typical galley has almost as many drawer fronts as doors, and every opening still has a face frame that stays on the wall. Interior painting prices walls by the square foot. Cabinet refinishing prices millwork by the piece. Quoting both from a published per-door number is how the boxes and the drawers eat the door margin.
Two hinges per door plus a pull on every door and drawer is 30–40 pieces on a small kitchen. Each one is remove, bag, and rehang. Degrease on a cooking wall is a half-day before primer will stick. Those hours do not appear in a per-door special written for a clean laundry-room cabinet.
Doors off in a booth is the fastest finish. On-site spray adds containment and masking. Brush and roll is slower still. The calculator keeps a finish labor factor on the painted pieces only — hardware bag-and-rehang and degrease stay the same. Mixing the two hides which part of a high bid is booth time and which part is grease.
A $38/h finisher loaded at 30% payroll burden is $49.40. Margin is a share of the price you send, not a markup on cost. The walk-away price is total cost — below that the job makes nothing before you take a dollar home. On the sample 10-door / 8-drawer galley the calculator prices about $3,390 ($339 per door, $126 per painted piece, 32.8 crew-hours, walk-away $2,542). The same kitchen as on-site brush with a dark-to-light extra coat is several hundred dollars more. Replace every rate with your invoices before you send either number.
This is not a paint specification, an adhesion warranty, a permit, or a recommended market price. It is arithmetic on the numbers you type. Finish system, sanding grit, and whether the boxes get sprayed in place are yours to confirm.
Charge from doors, drawer fronts, face-frame openings, hardware remove-and-rehang, degrease, finish method, extra coats for a color change, loaded labor, overhead, and a margin that is a share of price. A default 10-door / 8-drawer galley on shop spray prices around $3,390 on the sample rates in this calculator — about $339 per door, or $126 per painted piece.
Homeowners count doors. Drawer fronts, face frames, hardware, degrease, and a dark-to-light extra coat do not scale with that count. Matching a cheaper per-door quote written for a shop-sprayed same-color job is how an on-site brush kitchen becomes a loss.
Treat it as an extra finish coat on every removable piece — doors and drawer fronts — not a blended add-on to the door count. On the sample rates that is about 0.22 hours per removable piece. Face frames usually need the extra coat too; fold that into opening hours if your crew sprays boxes in place.
