Most Discogs sellers price a record with a rule of thumb: take off about 10% and call it done. It is close for a mid-priced record sold with free shipping and wrong in four places the calculator handles.
| Question | Rule of thumb | Calculator |
|---|---|---|
| Is shipping in the fee base? | Often forgotten | Yes, selling fee and processing both |
| Flat per-order processing | Ignored | Separate input |
| $150 cap on big sales | Overpays the fee in your head | Applied |
| Price for a target profit | Trial and error | Solved, including across the cap |
| Fee at $3 vs $100 vs $2,500 | One number | Fee ladder |
If you sell one kind of record at one price with one shipping rate, a spreadsheet with your own processing figure does the same thing. The calculator is for pricing a crate where the answer changes record by record, and for comparing Discogs against eBay, Etsy or Reverb on the same item through the where-to-sell calculator.

Because the 9% is charged on item plus shipping, the processing has a flat per-order part, and the selling fee is capped at $150, so a flat percentage is wrong at both ends of your price range.
It helps. Discogs does not publish one rate for every seller, so the calculator takes it as two boxes that start at 2.9% + $0.30. Copy your real figure from a payout statement and every result updates.
