Questions people ask
Is an electric van cheaper than diesel for a small fleet?
It depends on three numbers: how many miles each vehicle drives, what you pay for fuel, and what you pay for electricity. EVs cost more to buy but less to run, so the more miles a year, the faster the gap closes. The calculator finds the fuel price, electricity rate and annual mileage at which the two tie, so you can see how far your fleet is from each.
What does an EV total cost of ownership include?
Purchase price less any incentive you have confirmed, charger installation and upkeep, energy at your depot rate plus any public charging, the demand charge a new charger load can add to your electric bill, maintenance, the insurance difference, and resale value at the end. The same lines for the gas or diesel vehicle sit beside them, discounted to today's money.
How do I know the EV can handle my hardest day?
Enter the miles on your longest route and the rated range. The tool takes off an allowance for cold weather, payload and battery wear, then compares what is left to your hardest day. It also checks whether the chargers you plan can put enough energy back overnight for every vehicle at once.
Do incentives and tax credits change the answer?
They can by thousands per vehicle, and they change often and differ by state and utility, so none is built in. Enter only an amount you have confirmed in writing for your vehicle and your business. The default is zero, and the result shows what the answer would be without any help.
Is this financial or tax advice?
No. It is arithmetic on the numbers you type in. It does not decide tax treatment, financing, utility tariffs, incentive eligibility, vehicle suitability or insurance, and its defaults are placeholders, not market prices.
Not decided
Tax treatment and depreciation, financing, whether you qualify for any incentive, your utility's real tariff and the demand charge a charger install triggers, vehicle availability and suitability for your payload, insurance quotes, and real resale values years from now (an estimate you make, not a measurement). The defaults are placeholders, not market prices: check every figure against your own quotes and bills.
