Your crew hourly wage, overhead on direct cost and target net margin are the same on every job you bid. Save them once and every trade bid calculator here opens with your numbers instead of a stranger’s ballpark.
This tool has no separate payroll-burden field, so your saved burden rate is left alone here.
Kept in this browser only, on this site’s own storage. Nothing is uploaded, and clearing your browser data clears it. Forgetting them leaves the numbers already on this bid alone.
Keep this bid so it is still here when the customer calls back. Every number on this form is saved together, under a name you choose, along with the figure it gave you, and restoring one puts the whole job back exactly as you priced it. Mark each one won or lost when you hear — the ones you have not heard back on stay listed as waiting, with how long they have been out. Once a few have come back, this panel says how long yours actually take, and how many are still out past that. Once enough of them have been decided, it also says whether the bids you save here have been landing differently lately than they used to. Once a few here are decided, this panel says what the ones you won averaged against the ones you lost, so you can see where your price tips. On a lost bid you can also note what the job went for, if you heard — then it says how far off you actually were, which is the part guessing gets wrong in both directions. On a won one, note what the job came to once it was done and this panel says what those jobs actually kept, so you can see whether the ones you are winning are worth winning — and it tells you how many of your won jobs are still missing that figure, rather than going quiet about it. Restoring a bid also pins the figure it was saved at above this panel, so when the customer asks what it costs without the tear-off, the new number is shown against the one they already have — and by how much, in money and in percent.

FOR INDEPENDENT ICE DAM REMOVAL CONTRACTORS
A rate that works on a long run can lose money on a short one.
A crew, a truck, and a steam machine cost nearly the same to dispatch whether the eave that needs clearing is 15 feet or 150 feet — so a flat per-foot rate card that comfortably covers a long roof can fall short of a short job's largely fixed cost. This free calculator prices a job from footage, crew, and an emergency premium, checks whether your rate card actually clears this job's break-even rate, and lets you plug in the real on-site hours once the ice is off.

This is a planning floor from the numbers you typed, not an audited statement. It does not add sales tax, insurance, or a callback/warranty reserve unless you fold those into your rate.

The price above is for you. This is the page you print or save as a PDF and give to the customer — your details, their details, the scope, the deposit split, and a line for them to sign. Your business details are saved on this device so you only type them once; the customer’s details are never saved.
Everything on the printed page is text you typed or a number this calculator worked out. It contains no warranty, lien, or cancellation wording — those depend on your jurisdiction and your contract, and this tool is not the place to invent them.

Everything on this page runs in your browser. Your job details, prices, and hours are never uploaded, there is no account, and nothing is saved when you close the tab. "Copy share link" encodes your footage, rates, and crew figures into this page's own URL — nothing is sent to a server, and the link is only ever built and copied in your browser. We count only anonymous local feature events (quote-priced, actual-hours-checked, share_link_copied) so we can tell whether the calculator gets used — no job details, prices, or hours are recorded, and Do Not Track / Global Privacy Control turn it off automatically.
Common questions
Why can a per-linear-foot rate card lose money on a short job?
Because sending a crew, a truck, and a steam machine costs close to the same whether the eave that needs clearing is 15 feet or 150 feet. A rate that clears its cost comfortably on a long run gets spread across far fewer feet on a short one, so the same rate can fall short of the job's real, largely fixed cost.
What does breakEvenRatePerFoot actually tell me?
It is the per-foot rate this specific job's footage would need, ignoring your minimum service charge, to just cover its real cost with no profit. If your rate card is below that number, only your minimum service charge is protecting you on a job this short — and if the minimum itself is set too low, the job is a real loss.
Why is the emergency premium applied to labor and travel but not to fuel or equipment?
Because the premium compensates for being available outside normal hours, not for extra difficulty or extra fuel use — the steam machine burns the same fuel at 2am as at 2pm. It only changes what billed crew time costs.
Does anything about my job details or prices get uploaded?
No. Every field on this page runs in your browser only. Nothing is sent to a server, there is no account, and nothing you type is saved anywhere — it exists only in the page while it is open. Usage counting only tallies anonymous feature events, and you can turn it off with the button above.
