FOR PARKING LOT STRIPING CONTRACTORS

Bid the lines, the ADA hash, and the coats.

Price a pavement-marking job the way the trade actually loses money: stall lines, hashed ADA aisles, arrows, fire lanes, and whether this is a restripe or a new layout. You get the lot price, what it works out to per stall, the extra an $8-a-stall special hides, and the number below which the job loses money.

The lot

Pick a starting job, then change the stalls. A 50-stall restripe and a 50-stall new layout with ADA hash are not the same number.

Your costs

Starting coverage and hours sit in the comparison kits (360 lf/gal of 4-inch line, 18 lf per stall, 70 lf of ADA hash). They are ballpark crew figures, not a paint catalog — replace them in calc.mjs or type a proposed price to see whether the special still pays.

A bid link carries your own rates — wage, burden, overhead, and target margin — so the page reopens exactly as you left it. Send it to yourself or your crew. The numbers ride after the #, which is never sent to a server, so copying a link uploads nothing. The customer should get the price, not the link.

Where the hours go

Where the cheap special loses

Transparent arithmetic from your own inputs. Starting coverage and hours are common ballpark figures, not an industry standard, a MUTCD requirement, or a guarantee.

Common questions

Does this tell me how many accessible stalls I need?

No. ADA and local-ordinance accessible-stall counts depend on total lot size and jurisdiction, and this calculator does not look them up. Type the ADA stall count your plan or inspector requires and the tool prices the hash aisle, symbol, and sign work around it — it does not decide how many you need.

Why does a per-stall special undercut this number?

A flat “$8 a stall” price assumes every stall is the same, but ADA hash aisles, new-layout string lines, a second coat, and night work all add hours a restripe of faded 4-inch line does not have. Use “Compare ADA as regular stalls” to see the exact dollars and hours a flat rate would be missing on this lot.

Where do the coverage numbers (360 lf/gal, 18 lf/stall) come from?

They are common ballpark figures for 4-inch traffic paint and a standard 90-degree stall, not a manufacturer spec or an industry standard. Your paint, nozzle, and lot condition will differ — edit them in calc.mjs or just watch how the gallons and price move as you change stall counts, and true them up against your own paint tickets.

Does anything I type here get sent anywhere?

No. The bid, your wage and margin inputs, and any saved company details for the proposal all stay in this browser’s local storage. A bid link you copy encodes those numbers directly in the URL, so treat a shared link like a rate sheet, not a private note.

Hand the customer a proposal

The price above is for you. This is the page you print or save as a PDF and give to the customer — your details, their details, the scope, the deposit split, and a line for them to sign. Your business details are saved on this device so you only type them once; the customer’s details are never saved.

Everything on the printed page is text you typed or a number this calculator worked out. It contains no warranty, lien, or cancellation wording — those depend on your jurisdiction and your contract, and this tool is not the place to invent them.
