What should this sign or banner job cost?

Type the size and quantity, your material costs, how long the job takes in the shop and on site, and the margin you want. The tool shows the price that earns that margin, your break-even, what the job earns if you match the market price per square foot, and how the price per piece falls as quantity rises.

Arithmetic on figures you type. Not financial, tax or business advice. The example figures are placeholders, not your rate card or your suppliers' prices.

Questions sign shops ask

How do you price a banner or sign job?

Add material including waste, print and finishing time at your labour rate, design time, install and travel, and shop overhead for the hours the job occupies. Then divide by one minus your card fee and your target margin. Pricing per square foot alone hides the fixed design and setup time that small jobs carry.

Why is the price per square foot higher on small jobs?

Design, proofing and setup take the same time for one banner as for fifty. The quantity table shows the price per piece and per square foot falling as that fixed time is spread, so you can see where a volume discount still pays.

What margin should a sign shop target?

It depends on your overhead and how much of your time is billable. The tool shows the price at margins from 20% to 60% and the dollars left per shop hour, which is the number that tells you whether the work pays you.

Should I match the market price per square foot?

Only if it covers your cost. The tool prices the same job at your market rate and shows the profit or loss, so you can decide whether to match it, add install and design as separate lines, or pass.

Is this pricing or business advice?

No. It is arithmetic on figures you type. Check material prices, taxes and contract terms with your suppliers and a qualified professional.

Not decided

Supplier price breaks, sales tax, permits and engineering for large or lit signs, rush fees, artwork that needs redrawing, ink and media waste beyond the percentage you enter, and whether a customer will pay the price. Every piece in a job is treated as identical, and labour and overhead are straight hourly rates.
