Not one percentage — a matrix. Turo restructured host earnings around March 2026 into three named earnings plans, and within each plan the host share also depends on how far ahead of the trip the guest booked. The rest of this page works through the matrix on a real trip price, not a rounded example.
Host share by earnings plan and booking window (the guest's fraction goes to Turo):
| Plan | 0-2 days ahead | 3-13 days ahead | 14-27 days ahead | 28+ days ahead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Peace of Mind ($250 cap) | 65% | 70% | 75% | 80% |
| Balanced ($1,500 cap) | 75% | 80% | 85% | 90% |
| More Earnings ($2,750 cap) | 85% | 90% | 95% | 100% |
The percentage applies to the trip price plus any extra-mileage, late-return, and additional-usage fees the guest owes — not just the headline daily rate. The “cap” column is each plan's commonly cited damage-responsibility limit: the dollar amount a host can be held responsible for if the vehicle is damaged on a trip. It does not enter the payout arithmetic, but it is the real trade-off behind picking a higher-share plan.
A host lists a $350 trip (1 day, no extra fees) on the Balanced plan, booked 3-13 days ahead.
| Figure | Arithmetic | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Host share | Balanced × 3-13 days | 80% |
| Host payout | $350 × 0.80 | $280.00 |
| Turo's cut | $350 − $280.00 | $70.00 (20%) |
| Plan | Host payout | Turo's cut | Damage cap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Peace of Mind | $245.00 | $105.00 | $250 |
| Balanced | $280.00 | $70.00 | $1,500 |
| More Earnings | $315.00 | $35.00 | $2,750 |
A $70.00 swing on one trip from plan choice alone — against a damage-exposure range running from $250 to $2,750 over the same three rows.
| Booking window | Host share | Host payout |
|---|---|---|
| 0-2 days ahead | 75% | $262.50 |
| 3-13 days ahead | 80% | $280.00 |
| 14-27 days ahead | 85% | $297.50 |
| 28+ days ahead | 90% | $315.00 |
A $52.50 swing on the identical trip, from booking timing alone — nothing about the trip itself changed.
At 6 trips like this one a month, on the Balanced plan at the 3-13-day window: $280.00 × 6 = $1,680.00 a month, or $20,160.00 a year — a linear projection from one trip's payout and a stated trip frequency, not a booked-calendar forecast.
The Turo host payout calculator runs this same arithmetic on your own trip price, plan, booking window, and any extra fees, compares all three plans and all four booking windows side by side, and projects a monthly and annual estimate from your own trip frequency. Nothing you type leaves your browser.
Somewhere between 0% and 35%, depending on two things you pick or the guest picks: your earnings plan (Peace of Mind, Balanced, or More Earnings) and how far ahead of the trip the guest booked (0-2, 3-13, 14-27, or 28+ days). On the Balanced plan, Turo's cut ranges from 25% (last-minute) down to 10% (28+ days out). There is no single "Turo takes X%" answer anymore -- the honest answer is a 12-cell matrix, not a percentage.
Turo's host share locks in at the moment the guest books, and every earnings plan pays more the further ahead that booking happens. A trip booked 28+ days out pays a meaningfully higher host share than the identical trip booked 0-2 days before it starts, under all three plans -- it rewards a host's listing being bookable further in advance, not the trip itself being any different.
That depends on how much weight you put on host share versus damage-responsibility exposure, which this page cannot decide for you. Peace of Mind pays the lowest share (65-80%) but caps a damage claim you could be held responsible for at a commonly cited $250. More Earnings pays the highest share (85-100%) but raises that cap to a commonly cited $2,750. A higher share is not free money -- it comes with more of your own vehicle's risk on your side of the line.
