How much does Whatnot take on a pallet sale?

Whatnot's pallet/wholesale category is not a smaller version of the collectibles rows. It is 4% commission with no cap at all — a different rate and a different shape from the 8%-up-to-$1,500 row that comics, TCG, sports singles, toys & hobbies, and coins get. Assume the cap carries over from a collectibles show into a pallet lot and the arithmetic is wrong in the direction that costs money on a big lot.

The formula, same as every Whatnot lot

commission = commission rate × hammer — the pallet row has no cap, so the whole hammer is commissioned, not just a slice of it.

processing = 2.9% × (hammer + shipping charged + tax) + $0.30

payout = hammer − commission − processing

Worked example: a $2,000 pallet

No shipping, no tax, the published 4% pallet rate, 2.9% + $0.30 processing.

LineAmount
Hammer$2,000.00
Commission (4% of $2,000, no cap)$80.00
Processing (2.9% of $2,000 + $0.30)$58.30
Total fees$138.30
Payout$1,861.70

Effective take on the hammer: 6.92% — below the 8% headline rate because there is no fixed per-lot fee doing the opposite work a low-dollar collectible sees, just a flat percentage plus the usual processing.

Where the uncapped 4% row stops being the cheaper one

A $6,000 pallet at the pallet rate is $240.00 commission (4% of the full $6,000 — still no cap). The same $6,000 hammer under the capped 8% TCG/comics rate would be commissioned on only the first $1,500 of it, which is $120.00 — half as much, because everything past $1,500 is 0% under that cap. Processing is identical either way ($174.30) since it runs on the checkout total, not the commission base.

The crossover is around $3,000: below it, 4% of the whole hammer is less than 8% of the first $1,500; above it, the capped row wins because it stops taking a cut and the flat 4% never does. A pallet flipper pricing a large mixed lot is comparing a flat rate against a rate with a ceiling, not two flavors of the same shape.

Do this with your own pallet

The Whatnot seller payout calculator ships a "Pallets (wholesale)" category preset that sets the 4%-no-cap rate for you — pick it from the category dropdown and run your own hammer, shipping, and cost. Nothing you type leaves your browser.

Common questions

How much does Whatnot take on a pallet sale?

On the published US pallet/wholesale row, a $2,000 pallet with no shipping or tax is $80.00 commission (4% of $2,000, no cap) plus $58.30 processing (2.9% of $2,000 + $0.30) = $138.30 in fees and a $1,861.70 payout. That is 6.92% of the hammer, not the 8% the standard row headlines.

Does the $1,500 cap apply to pallets?

No. Whatnot's published US wholesale/pallet rate is 4% with no cap at all — the 0%-above-$1,500 shape is published for comics, TCG, sports singles, toys & hobbies, and coins, not for pallets. A pallet lot is commissioned on its full hammer no matter the price.

Is a lower uncapped rate always cheaper than a capped one?

Not past the cap. A $6,000 pallet at the uncapped 4% rate pays $240.00 commission. The same $6,000 hammer at the capped 8% TCG rate pays commission on only the first $1,500, which is $120.00 — half as much. Below roughly $3,000 the 4% uncapped row is cheaper; above it, the 8%-capped row is, because the cap stops taking a cut on everything past $1,500 and the flat 4% never stops.
