SHOPIFY PAYMENTS FEE ANALYZER · RUNS IN YOUR BROWSER · NOTHING UPLOADED

What is Shopify Payments really costing you?

Drop in your Payments Transactions export and see the fee waterfall by transaction type, your effective rate by card brand, card source and payment method, what refunds and chargebacks cost in fees you do not get back, and what a different rate would save.

The file is read in this browser tab and never leaves your device. Order numbers in it are not sent anywhere.

1. Your transactions file

Shopify admin → Finances → Payouts → Transactions → Export → CSV. Columns such as “Transaction Date”, “Type”, “Order”, “Card Brand”, “Card Source”, “Amount”, “Fee”, “Net”, “Payment Method Name”, “Presentment Currency” and “Currency” are matched without regard to case; missing optional columns are fine.

Common questions

Can I see my real Shopify Payments fee rate without paying for a tool?

Yes. In your Shopify admin go to Finances, then Payouts, then Transactions, and export the transactions as CSV. Drop the file in here and the tool adds up every charge, fee, refund and dispute and gives you the effective rate overall and by card brand, card source and payment method. Nothing is uploaded.

Why is my effective rate higher than the plan's headline rate?

Headline rates cover a domestic card on a same-currency order. International cards, currency conversion, American Express, small orders (where the fixed per-transaction fee is a large share) and dispute fees all push the blended rate above it. The waterfall shows which of them is doing it in your own file.

Do I get the processing fee back when I refund an order?

Generally no: the sale is returned but the fee on the original charge is not, so every refund costs the fee on top of the lost margin. The tool matches each refund to its charge by order number and shows the fee you did not get back. Check your current Shopify terms, as they can change.

What does a chargeback cost?

The disputed amount, a dispute fee, and, if you win, a reversal of the amount. The tool lists dispute count, dispute fees, reversals won and the net cost, and the dispute rate as a share of charges.

How does the what-if work?

Two editable what-ifs. One applies a percentage plus a fixed amount per charge that you type to every charge in the file and shows the difference. The other moves volume from international to domestic cards at the rates each paid in your file. They are arithmetic on your numbers, not Shopify's current rates.

What does the tool not see?

Your Shopify plan price, third-party gateway fees, app charges, taxes, shipping label costs, the true cost of goods, and anything sold outside Shopify Payments. Rows with types it does not know are shown in an “other” line so they are visible rather than lost.

Is this financial advice?

No. It applies arithmetic to the file you provide and does not replace your own records or a qualified accountant.
