1. Your orders file
Needs an Order Date and a sold price (Sold Price or Sale Price). Used when present: Product Name, Show, Category, SKU, Order ID, Shipping Charged and Sales Tax (they are part of what processing is charged on), Commission, Processing Fee or a single Fees column, Net Earnings, a Cost column, and Status (cancelled, returned and refunded orders are left out and counted). Comma, tab and semicolon files, quoted fields, US and day-first dates and UTF-16 exports are read. Rows that cannot be read are listed with a line number and reason.
2. What you paid (optional, but it is what makes this profit)
A cost column in the file is used as it is. Anything you paste here overrides it for the items it matches, by SKU first, then order ID, then exact product name. Sales with no cost are left out of profit and brand verdicts.

The model, and what it leaves out
- Whatnot's fees are read from the file's commission and processing columns (or a single fees column). Without them, the rates in step 1 are applied: commission of 8% of the item price by default, and payment processing of 2.9% of item plus shipping plus tax, plus a flat 30 cents. The defaults are constants in this tool, not a live lookup, and category rates and caps are not modelled: set the commission rate to your own.
- Payout is the net earnings column when the file has one, otherwise sold price minus fees. Other deductions are the gap between price minus fees and the file's net earnings.
- Profit is payout minus the cost you gave for that item. Sales with no cost have no profit figure and are not counted in margins or the show and category verdicts.
- Reconciles. The show rows, the category rows and the month rows each add up to the totals at the top.
- Effective fee rate is fees over sold price. It is high on low-priced sales because the 30 cents is fixed per order.
- Shows and categories that lost money are groups whose costed sales lost money in total, with at least three costed sales. With no cost data at all, the page names only categories where fees alone take 15% or more of the price.
- Not modelled: sales tax remittance, income tax, shipping labels you paid outside the file, giveaways and free items, chargebacks, packaging, your own time, and anything not in the file.
Common questions
Which of my Whatnot shows and categories actually make money?
Export your orders from Whatnot Seller Hub (or keep a sheet with an order date, show, category and sold price) and drop it here. The tool takes the sold price, subtracts Whatnot's commission and payment processing to get your payout, then subtracts what you paid for the item if you give a cost column or paste SKU,cost pairs. What is left is profit per sale, per show, per category and per month. Nothing is uploaded; the file is read in your browser.
What does Whatnot actually take from a sale?
Whatnot's published US shape is a commission on the item price (8% by default, lower or capped in some categories) plus payment processing of 2.9% on what the buyer paid, meaning item, shipping and tax, plus a flat 30 cents. So the effective rate on a small sale is well above the headline. Both rates are editable here; check them against your own payout statement, since Whatnot can change them.
How do I give the tool what I paid for each item?
Either add a cost column to the file (Cost, Item Cost, Cost Basis or Purchase Price) or paste one SKU,cost pair per line in step 2. Pairs match on the SKU column first, then the order ID, then the exact product name, and a pasted cost overrides the file's. Sales with no cost are left out of profit and the show and category verdicts, and the page says how many.
Why can a payout be lower than price minus fees?
Where the file has a net earnings column it is trusted as your payout. Any gap between sold price minus the fees and that figure is shown as an other deduction; a shipping label, an adjustment or a fee the file does not itemise are the usual causes.
Are the column names right for my export?
They are matched by alias from memory of Whatnot's seller export, and no real export was available when this was built. If your file is not read, the page names the rows it skipped and why; a sheet with the headers Order Date, Product Name, Show, Category, Sold Price and Net Earnings always works.
Is this tax or financial advice?
No. It applies arithmetic to the file and the costs you supply and does not replace your own judgement or a qualified tax adviser. It is independent of Whatnot and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Whatnot Inc.
