How much does Whatnot take on a $2,400 graded card?

Not 8% of $2,400. On the published US row for comics, TCG, sports singles and toys & hobbies, commission is 8% of the first $1,500 of the hammer and 0% on the rest. Processing is separate and has no cap. Price a big lot with a flat 8% and you overstate the fee by $72.

The formula

commission = 8% × min(hammer, $1,500)

processing = 2.9% × (hammer + shipping charged + tax) + $0.30

payout = hammer − commission − processing

Worked example: a $2,400 graded lot

No shipping, no tax, 2.9% + $0.30 processing.

LineAmount
Hammer$2,400.00
Commission (8% of the first $1,500; $900 above is 0%)$120.00
Processing (2.9% of $2,400 + $0.30)$69.90
Total fees$189.90
Payout$2,210.10

Effective take on the hammer: 7.91%. A flat 8% commission would give $192.00 commission, $261.90 in fees (10.91%) and a $2,138.10 payout.

The cap only helps above $1,500

At $800 the same row is $64.00 commission + $23.50 processing = $87.50 (10.94% of the hammer). At $1,500 it is $120.00 + $43.80 = $163.80 (10.92%). At $5,000 commission is still $120.00, so fees are $265.30 (5.31%). Commission stops growing at $1,500; processing never stops.

Do this with your own lot

The Whatnot seller payout calculator has a category preset for this row. Pick it, enter your hammer, postage and cost, and replace the rate and cap with the numbers on your own statement. Nothing you type leaves your browser.

Common questions

How much does Whatnot take on a $2,400 graded card?

On the published US row for comics, TCG, sports singles and toys, a $2,400 hammer with no shipping or tax is $120.00 commission (8% of the first $1,500, 0% on the other $900) plus $69.90 processing (2.9% of $2,400 + $0.30) = $189.90 in fees and a $2,210.10 payout. That is 7.91% of the hammer, not the $192.00 commission a flat 8% would suggest.

Is the $1,500 commission cap permanent?

No. Whatnot publishes it as a limited-time US shape and it varies by category and region, so treat it as an input, not a fact. The calculator's category presets are starting points: replace the rate and cap with the line on your own payout statement.

Does the cap lower the processing fee too?

No. Processing is 2.9% + $0.30 of what the buyer paid at checkout (item, shipping and tax) and the commission cap does not touch it. On the $2,400 lot processing is $69.90 either way; the cap saves $72.00 of commission only.
